So those of you who know the gamine understand that Tria Gallery and Lauren Bergman hold a very special place in our hearts! The current show at Tria Gallery, “American Fragment” is not to be missed! We have been anticipating it for months and it did not disappoint. It is a two-person show featuring the work of Lauren Bergman and Karen Dow and it picks apart and reconstitutes the American Dream. The opening last night was buzzing with excitement and the work was fresh and full of energy.

According to the gallery, “On view are works from Bergman’s Ameritopia series, in which she explores female identity through a lens of tongue-in-cheek nostalgia.  Bergman uses the iconic mid-century modern architecture as backdrops emblematic of the collective optimism that pervades American ideology.  Dow’s abstract work similarly uses the geometry of modern architecture and interior space to deconstruct furniture, rooms and people in a modulated color palette.  Speaking to the underlying uncertainty of our current cultural climate, these paintings offer glimpses of life in the American Utopia, if only a fragment viewed through our own distorted prisms. ”

We love Lauren’s work because it is whimsical, ironic, iconic and well, it would just look great on our walls! She is also the jeweler behind Aroc Urtu which we featured a while back.

“American Fragment” is on view through May 28 at Tria Gallery, 531 West 25th St., Ground Floor #5.
